Active Music Therapy

In this kind of music therapy, client and therapist are actively participating in music making. There are three levels of music therapy in this field:

  1. Music therapy as an activation
  2. Music therapy to correct behaviour
  3. Music therapy to rebuild a troubled life

Most of the time the client is improvising with his/her instruments, which are carefully chosen by the therapist from observing the progress of the client.

Tony Wigram designed different kinds of improvisation techniques that cater to clients with different problems in their daily lives. For example, a client who’s afraid of changes can learn through the technique of “Seductive Transition” to accept changes. He learns this through the media of changing music and later this skill can be applied to his daily life.
